So whether you are looking for this particular pizza style or maybe you're eating at a restaurant and you notice that your pizza looks very very unusual, then I hope this guide can help inform you so that you can know what kind of a pizza style you're eating.

So, you can be familiar with all these different pizza styles for your next pizza outing. So anyway let's not waste any more time I'm gonna begin with the first one going alphabetically, starting with

California style This style of pizza has only been around for the last few decades. It's not as popular as say Chicago or New York style pizza but California style pizza is definitely something to try especially if you are visiting California. The dough is very similar in texture and taste to the Neapolitan pizza which means that it's soft and flimsy, but the difference is in the pizza toppings, using many local California ingredients such as avocados and proteins like barbecue chicken and even Thai flavor which creates that very unique California twist. So if you are in California and you see a pizza that looks like this, then most likely it is a California style pizza.

Chicago deep dish Chicago is very well known for its pizza, often in competition to the New York style, but both of them are very different. Chicago is known for its deep-dish pizza which is the biggest and most epic pizza you'll find in the India, weighing in at 5 to 6 pounds for a large pie which is what it is? the dough is thick, it's crispy, its buttery, and the Pizza toppings and tomato sauce are pretty generous on this thing, usually placed on top of the Pizza toppings so that the cheese doesn't burn. So if you see a pizza that's this big in a restaurant, then most likely it is a Chicago style pizza or a very good imitation of it.

Chicago thin crust Yes, Chicago strikes again. Along with the deep-dish Chicago is also known for its thin crust pizza. this pizza style is also very popular in the Midwest. The crust is fairly thin and has a nice crunch to it and another cool thing about it is that it's cut into squares in contrast to the typical triangular cuts. It is an easily shareable pie in which each pizza doesn't overwhelm. Popular Pizza toppings include the cheese and the sausage. So if you are in a restaurant and you see a pizza that looks like this and tastes like this, then most likely it is a Chicago thin crust pizza.

Detroit style This is a distinctive Pizza style that's well known for its fluffy and crispy crust. it's a pan pizza kind of like what Pizza Hut specializes in, and it is cooked in a square cast-iron skillet to create that unique crispy crust. The deep interior sides of the crust are crispy because it's a cheese that's pretty much cooked in. so if you love the thickness of the pan pizza style with that crispiness on the edges, then Detroit style pizza is the way to go. If you see a pizza that looks like this in a restaurant, then most likely it is a Detroit style pizza.

Neapolitan style This is the most Italian of the bunch. It originally came from Naples Italy and is a big hit in California. It's also the simplest and cleanest tasting pizza in the sense that the dough is mixed with water and yeast and salt and oftentimes cooked in a wood-fired oven which creates that crust texture that almost tastes like a perfectly cooked pita bread. And it's just the right size so that one person can eat the whole pie. This is my personal favorite of all the pizzas. so if you are in a pizza restaurant and you see a pizza that looks like this, smells like this, and tastes like this, most likely it's that famous one that came from Italy.

New England Greek style This style of pizza is very unknown in the US but now you'll learn about it for the first time for most of you guys. The crust is halfway between a New York thin crust and deep-dish in texture and is cooked in a heavily greased cast-iron pan to get that unique crispy and fluff texture. The pizza toppings are also very unorthodox in that it uses many Greek pizza toppings including feta cheese artichokes kalamata olives and a whole bunch of other stuff. So just remember if you see pizza toppings on here that looks like it could have been on a Greek salad, then most likely it is a Greek style pizza.

New Haven style This Pizza style is also one of the more unknown on this list and it is certainly worth noting. What makes this pizza recognizable is that it is cooked in a coal filled oven, creating that charred crust that looks like something you cook in a backyard grill. The pizza is oftentimes miss shaped so that it doesn't have that perfect circular shape. Along with the cheese, popular toppings include tomato garlic and sometimes clams, all presented on top of this wax paper. I mean isn't that pretty cool? So if you're at a restaurant and you see a pizza that's presented like this and looks like this, then most likely it came from New Haven.

New York style This is the New York thin crust pizza that is renowned all over the US and is a must try if you visit New York City. You can tell what this pizza looks like because it's large, it's hand tossed, it's slices are pretty big, it's thin and it's crunchy all around. The most famous on is the cheese pizza which uses a generous amount of mozzarella cheese. You should try this one first before going with the pepperoni or other favorite pizza toppings it's the New York based dough and water that gives us pizza its distinctive flavor. So if you are in a restaurant and you see a pizza that looks like this and tastes like this, then most likely it is in New York style pizza.

St.Louis style This style of pizza is also a relatively unknown style in the US but it has its own distinctive character. It is the thinnest pizza of them all, so thin that the crust breaks apart almost like eating crackers. Like in Chicago thin crust, it's also cut into squares, but what makes this pizza inventive is its wild toppings which includes everything from its heavy unique sauces to its regional cheese's. It's almost like a glorified cheese and cracker meal but of course, it is pizza. So if you are in a restaurant and you see something that's this unique, then most likely it is a St. Louis-style pizza. You should definitely try it.

Sicilian pizza Despite the name, this pizza was not invented in Italy. Rather it was created in the US by Italian immigrants on the East Coast in the early 20th century. It's kind of like the precursor to the Detroit style pizza because it looks very similar. It has the fluffiness and thickness of a pan pizza along with the same crispiness. It's also served in these squares, kind of like these rectangular shapes with that cheese and pepperoni and oregano. It's a slice of Italy that's well mixed with American. So if you see a pizza that looks like this in a restaurant and tastes like this, then most likely you are dealing with a Sicilian style pizza.
